is a magnificent Norman building set in the largest close in England.
The 225 nave roof bosses, illustrating the Bible from Creation to
the Day of Judgment, and the Saxon Bishop’s throne in the eastern
apse, are unique features. The cathedral spire is the second tallest
in England (315 feet, 96 metres), and the cloisters are the largest
monastic cloisters in the country. Building on the Cathedral started
in 1096 and took approximately 50 years to complete. All of its facing
stone was imported from Caen in Normandy.
